Our environments shape us as much as we shape them.
Even in absence, presence remains.
Among the Laurels began with my grandparents’ farm in Western Pennsylvania. By the time I understood its significance, the space had already begun to fade into memory. I often wished I had photographed it earlier, while the evidence of their lives was still visible in the walls, the floors, the land itself.
I’ve spent two decades photographing people and the spaces they inhabit, always searching for the subtle relationship between identity and environment. No matter the assignment, that focus never left.
This project is my return to that foundation, a commitment to paying attention to the places people live and work within, and to the layers of story that remain present in those spaces, whether someone is there or not.
This is an invitation.
To pause.
To look more closely.
